Vinny is the only puppy from Valerie's litter of 8 left!!!
Vinny is such a good boy, so good in fact that we have considered keeping him along with his sister, Ronni (Veronica), that we adopted. But raising two puppies at the same time is for crazy people so we are still on the look out for Vinny's forever home.
He is a sweet, silly, goofball who will probably be 60-70lbs when he grows up. We don't know Vinny's DNA but his sibling, Velma, (who could have a different dad) is cattle dog, pitbull, Shar-pei, German shepherd and Shetland sheepdog.
Vinny is well on his way to being house trained, knows how to use a dog door and walks really nicely on leash. We've been taking our puppy, Ronni, to puppy class with Diane Wray at Diane's Clever K9's and she offered to have us bring Vinny to some of the classes, no charge! He did so well with every challenge and behavior we worked on. Both puppies mastered the agility equipment including the squishy donuts (video below). We have taken Ronni and Vinny on leash to Home Depot, Ace, Tractor Supply, Downtown Durango, Main Mall, Santa Rita Park, Pastorius Reservoir, over bridges, up and down stairs, near traffic and on the river trail meeting adults, children and dogs.
Seriously, everywhere we go people comment on how good and sweet and calm these puppies are. Whoever adopts Vinny is going to be blown away with how easily he integrates into their life. If you're ready for a new dog, look no further : )
Valerie and her puppies are available for adoption in Durango, CO through Blackhat Humane Society!
Valerie is a rez dog (means she was found on a reservation) who gave birth at our home on Saturday, July 27, 2024. We are fostering her and her puppies in Durango, CO for Blackhat Humane Society. Valerie is a sweet, smart, silly, affectionate girl who is a great mom. She is good with other dogs, good on leash, does not bother our chickens, only wants to go to the bathroom outside and figured out how to use the dog door in just 3 days.
Valerie's puppies have been handled and socialized daily. They've met ~150 different people and have had tons of new experiences such as riding in the car, riding in a cart around town and following us off leash for morning adventure walks around our 12 acre property. They've been to 3 puppy parties at different local business, Santa Rita park, a soccer game, the skate park and Home Depot. Everywhere we go, people comment on how good and calm they are. They reliably use their indoor potty but prefer to use the dog door go to the bathroom outside so they are well on their way to being house trained. They have walked on many surfaces: concrete, asphalt, grass, dirt, stones, gravel, linoleum, carpet and up and down ramps and hills. They are learning to sit for treats and attention and rarely whine. Owners of their adopted siblings say they are integrating into their homes so well. Viola is a shop dog at Sotheby's and one of their agents told me she is so good and calm at the office.
We put a lot of time and care into raising our foster puppies to help them become calm, stable, social pets. Early socialization is the easiest, fastest and most fun way to get a pet ready for their life in the human world and the best way to prevent behavior problems which is our #1 priority.
If you're ready for a new puppy, you won't want to miss getting one of these. And if your puppy raising skills are a little rusty, I've got two free ebooks (see below) that covers everything you need to know BEFORE and AFTER you get your puppy. Submit your application today!
This is a great way to get your puppy fix and, if you're considering adoption, a chance to get to know them before making a decision.

The #1 cause of death in dogs under 3 years old is behavior problems. Properly socializing puppies is the easiest, fastest and most effective way to prevent the problems that reduce quality of life, cause dogs to lose their homes and, often, their lives.
I highly recommend that you read these two short, FREE ebooks before you adopt a puppy.
Raising a puppy properly is a lot of work. You can expect to spend at least 3 hours per day feeding, walking/pottying, cleaning, playing, training and socializing your puppy until they are at least 6 months old, preferably 12.
This may seem like a big investment, and it is, but you will find that it is 100% worth the effort because you are more likely to end up with a dog that is easy to own, a pleasure to be around and much less likely to develop behavior problems.
Potential adopters that demonstrate that they have read these books will be more likely to be approved for adoption. It’s that important.
