Birthday

For weeks, I told people that Maggie would have her puppies “…any day now“. One of the challenges when fostering a pregnant rescue dog is you almost never know her due date. Maggie just kept getting bigger and bigger and then gave only one brief signal that she started going into labor. Even then, I thought I had another hour or so…nope, she had the first puppy without me even knowing it and I was ten feet away!

It took about five hours but Maggie gave birth to ten healthy, squirmy babies: 6 boys and 4 girls. Three of them have short stubby tails which, I’m guessing, is a heritable birth defect but who cares! They are darn cute. Since Maggie looks like a sweet freckle-faced Irish girl, it’s an Irish Spring litter…Brinn, Conor, Finn, Seamus (shay-mus), Liam, Aiden, Fiona, Ciara (keer-a), Deirdre and Ronan.
